The collection comprises eleven music scores as well as a roneo copy of a one leaf circular titled, 'Australasian Performing Right Association and the Australian Broadcasting Commission Olympic composers competition and a light music composers' competition 1956'. This includes a list of winners in each section, though J.E. Hunter won no prize for his composition, 'Olympic greeting : Olympic unison song'. The music scores in the collection include this composition and the following titles: 'Flight o' fancy : song for piano' (two copies; one roneoed and the other written in ink); 'Elfin music : song' (written in ink; words by Alexander G. Steven and music by John E. Hunter); 'Elegie' (piano music written in ink); 'The chase : waltz' (written in ink); 'Sonatina in four movements'; 'Spring' (words by P. Lloyd-Smith and music by J.E. Hunter; manuscript in three copies: two in ink and one in pencil); '[The overlanders droving, the cattle kicking up dust]' (written in pencil); 'The call' (written in pencil). 'The wax flower' (written in ink with pencil notations); a 'Manuscript music book' which includes melodic and harmonic progressions, as well as musical exercises written in pencil.
